READY TO DOMINATE
Sorry if I sound like a noob, I'm using a Ryzen x and MSI X gaming plus mobo currently and I'm relying on the Precision Boost and XFR2 since I heard they are pretty good automatic features for someone who doesnt know much about manual overclocking like me. But someone told me that my "MSI mobo doesnt have offset voltage mode, so I should not use PBO and xfr2 and should do manual overclocking instead". Heard such features uses higher voltage without the offset voltage mode in MSI boards.
Did I make a mistake in choosing MSI motherboards, such that I cant benefit from the automatic features? I'm also using the Ryzen Wraith Prism cooler so not sure if manual overclocking would be worth the risk. I wont be changing for the cooler for the time being So what are my options here? Should I do overclocking manually? Appreciate any help here! Nichrome Global Moderator Offline Posts: They then take the worst CPU that needed most voltage for each clock scenario, and set such voltage value in automatic overclocking, so IF you have one of those terribly overclocking CPUsyou'll still get clocks you want.
In your case, automatic OC might set 4. I never found myself the need of using it as my CPU overclocks pretty well anyway. What exactly motherboard is it you're using? As you use stock cooler, you have to be careful with temps. I only take responsibility for what I say, not for what you understand. Any posts are my own views! I see. Seems like that's the case. My cpu core voltage jumps to 1. So if manual overclocking is my best options here, where do you reckon I start?
I saw an overclocking guide as a sticky in this forum A40 Do I need to update it? Ok so first, don't use text colour formatting.
The max I have is 1T IF. Good enough! Now I want to really understand what to optimize in the Bios to get the most of the CPU, without manual overclock. I don't see that option anywhere c I see 1. Thank you so much for the help. Jan 14, at PM 2. Auto overclock you set in Ryzen MAster.
I get best max boost on my X with this. Just looked at my HWinfo64 and 1. See Jay2cents for lowering the voltage to somewhere where he thought it should be. Jan 15, at AM 3. I'm no bencher … I mean, until I get to a setup I like, I bench but just to see how much improvements I get, but other than that Going to give a try. Jan 15, at AM 4.Register Now! Login Register. The bios changed looks cause of the lack of space? The x gaming pro carbon bios here isnt recognized by the board? Hi, i have flash my Gaming pro x, but i can't return to the bios I know It's not an serious issue because my mobo support bios flashback feature. But, I am here to mention, released beta bios should need more polish before final release.
The May versions are okay. Quote from: rodneyojalata on June, Quote from: david. Just out of interest why did any of you flash these beta bios files???? Quote from: ikilledkennyrogers on June, I modded it so it will appear to me in the BIOS like you can see in the screeshots below.

As of now we have them set on Auto, but have read elsewhere that you have to set them both to Enable in order for PBO to work. So which setting is it Auto or Enable, and if its not Auto then why, what does Auto do? I have tried both PBO settings on Enable and noticed no difference from Auto, but that may be because of my board and cooling.
My freind on the other hand has a X Master with water cooling so maybe he would benefit from it more then I. Azrak Gawd.At least not without a healthy dose of liquid nitrogen. Precision Boost 2 without asking the user to tinker or risk their warranty. Why would we do that? It is not our intent to leave anything on the table. It seems even AMD has its doubts about the overclocking proficiency of Zen 2. Yet we initially had high hopes for the Ryzen 7 X when it first graced our test bench.
Read more: These are the best gaming monitors around. Precision Boost 2 increases and decreases clock speed in a scalar fashion as CPU threads are shifted task to task. Precision Boost Overdrive removes these limits and replaces them with the maximum values your particular motherboard is capable of.
Probably fine. We started out with, what we initially believed to be, a generous 1. Black screen. Okay, 1. Following that same stepping we went all the way up to 1. You stop caring after a while.
No luck at Nor But, we finally struck a healthy balance with a x43 multiplier — or 4. Just a little below that red line.
And single-threaded applications suffered due to the lack of the occasional boost beyond 4. So while some multi-threaded applications made marginal use of this all-core clock, few games or synthetic benchmarks showed any improvement whatsoever. The X remained stable at 4. Only in X v5. And regardless, without persuasive numbers to say otherwise, neither chipset offers a particularly strong case for overclocking.
The efficiency gains of the 7nm process node are all but forgotten once you crank up the voltages and frequencies. Our Ryzen 7 X was gaining on its 14nm predecessor fast, and was within just 12 watts under load in x v5.Forums New posts Search forums. New posts New posts New profile posts Latest activity. I, as well as others have encountered an issue after that exact BIOS update. You'd be surfing, starting a game, encoding a video and BAM!
The computer would stay powered and all I would do was hold the power button to shut it off I've since switched back to that BIOS and the resetting is gone now.
